Greetings!
For those looking to fill the generation gap on cymbals, it can be an expensive and frustrating journey of trial and error to find a match! However the PC series crash cymbals from Pintech come with a decent price tag and off the shelf work well with the ddrum4. Crashes, swells, etc. feel natural and chokes are also possible by squeezing the trigger box (works best on the 14" and smaller due to trigger placement). If you use an eDrumIn MIDI'd to the ddrum4 you can also take advantage of the dual zone Pintech crashes with the edge switch as the eDrumIn will send the required aftertouch signal to the ddrum4 module for fast, in-play chokes. Note that you will need to use (or create) cymbal sound files with aftertouch enabled (ddrum4edit can display/modify this setting). I have also used the Pintech LTE model (metal) for ride cymbals but so far only a single zone has really worked well (zone isolation is challenging with metal), but the feel is metal versus rubber on plastic so still a good solution for a ride cymbal. I was able to get a dual zone (bow/bell) to work using the eDrumIn with very aggressive settings but still was not very satisfactory.
Hope this can be helpful!
Cheers!
Ken
