Just in case anybody is interested, I just got myself a SCSI2SD from samplerzone.com ( samplerzone.com/collections/storage/products/scsi2sd-v5-5-plug-in-drive) formatted as an Akai S1000 disk. It works perfectly and I was successfully able to transfer some old Akai S1000 sample CDs to my ddrum3 over scsi. Using Chicken Systems Translator 7 ( www.chickensys.com/products2/translator/) I was also able to convert .wav files into Akai S1000 format and transfer them to the ddrum3. There's a limitation of only being able to use 4 partitions of 650MB each regardless of the SD card size (the rest is wasted), but it still feels like a pretty big game changer being able to use an SD card with the ddrum3!

That looks like a really nice setup and eliminates the need for old hardware! Thanks for sharing that!
Cheers!

FYI for anyone that has one of these units already or looking to purchase, SamplerZone is transitioning away from the SCSI2SD product in favor of the ZuluSCSI. At this moment they are offering to trade your existing SCSI2SD for a ZuluSCSI at no cost (including shipping). This is a great deal as the ZuluSCSI is a much better unit in that it supports all 7 SCSI IDs rather than the limit of 4 the SCSI2SD has, and also the SD cards are standard fat32 format and the files are just disk images so easily managed from any computer. I was able to take an iso file from an early Real Megadrums AKAI CD and simply copy to the SD card with the appropriate file name and the ddrum3 recognized all of the samples. With a large SD card you can have tons of samples stored in different directories with 7 volumes each and switch between them as required with a simple file edit. Loving this new unit!
Cheers!

I am new. just got my dd3 last week and I'm looking to load samples. I git a few 24m cards but this way sounds much easier and could hold much more. Is there anyway you could,
List the part number of the zulu card. I went to samplerzone but there were many options and I don't really know what I'm looking at yet.
Also, can this be used with a windows comp to transfer samples to SD then plug into the dd3. I think that's how you explained this.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi jason , This is the Zulu unit on SamplerZone. You'll want to select Akai S1000-type as the Sampler Type. Note that this unit will appear to the dd3 as an Akai formatted read-only CD drive so you still need to use the PCMCIA cards (did those 24MB cards work ok?) as the destinations for copying samples from the Zulu to the dd3. The dd3 cannot play samples direct from the Zulu. The Zulu is essentially your offline sample store but cannot be written to by the dd3. Regarding Windows, yep no problem. Just copy files from your Windows PC to the SD card. It is formatted as fat32 so seen as a removable storage device in Windows. The Translator software mentioned will convert from standard wave files to the Akai format using the SD card as the destination. For a free command line solution there is akaiutil available for both Mac and Windows. I use both on a MacBook. BTW, a bit more discussion here. Hope this helps. Cheers! Ken
