Hi, hope someone can clarify this for me. I can buy this kit for around 330 £. But I'm worried that the pads will be super noisy! I used to own a DDRUM AT kit, and those pads were really loud. Unfortunately, these are not the mesh head version. I've been wondering if I could just replace the normal head with a meshhead. I tried that on my old pads, but I just destroyed the foam underneath it. Another urgent question is: I usually used my ride as a crash/ride when I play drums normally, I smack the edge all of the time. Is this something that I can emulate on the DDRUM 4se cymbal pads? Or would the ride cymbal only be making "ride" sounds? If not, then it dosen't make sense to buy it. Hope to hear from someone. Regards Ken

Hi
The dd4 module supports mesh heads. The cast pads on the photo are very loud, just as the older dd3 (with grey stripe) or even older with red stipes on the edges. If you put a crash sound on your ride-pad, this will work, but if you put a ride cymbal sound, it will probably sound iffy.

Thanks for the reply.
I mean, Roland modules have a bell, bow and edge to them. The DDRUM4 SE dosen't? What sound triggers when you smash the edge of the "ride" cymbal/sounds?
I tried the set quickly, it seemed like it could work, but I wasn't convinced.

You can read the details in the dd4 manual, but if you hit the center of the cymbalpad, you will get a bell sound, the rest of the surface is bow, there is no specific edge sound for the rides, so you will have to assign a crash sound.
If you have an extra pad, you could assign a bell sound to that one. Have a look through the older samples from the dd2 pack, there are probably some bell-only sounds, but I'm guessing. Haven't really bothered with those old samples. You can use sample dump for any other sample.
