Simmons made a TMI Midi interface and a MTM years ago. I used the Simmons TMI and looking for such for my rack mounted VSTI project. Want a rack mountable TMI. What do drummers using a Muse Receptor use for pads / midi interface? This is more for home hobby drumming verses the serious stuff I do live using my trusty dependable DDrum 4 kit. I am a bit of a collector and always wanted a SKB rack mounted type set up. Any comments appreciated. This is a winter project as I am a gear pig when it comes to electronics and drum sounds. What I liked about the simmons TMI is the pad adjustments are like ddrum 4, rotary buttons vs the type ie: Alesis D4. Thanks.

I have two TMI's Roland TMC-6, which is not rack mountable, and I also own the Aphex Impulse which is rack mount. I'd say it's the fastest around, no more than 1ms latency. The user interface is pretty horrible though. Tiny LCD screen with no back light. Also, there is some less clever functions like the threshold is common for all inputs. But when once set up right it's a really good unit!

The first one I ever saw was the AKAI #ME35T. It had push buttons and was an 8-input to MIDI converter. That was back when guys were triggering Samplers from their drumkit. You can actually get rackmount Samplers with 8 trigger inputs, but i have no idea how fast they are compared to modern TMI's. The fastest Trigger to MIDI Interface that you're going to find is ddrum2, ddrum3, ddrum4 because they left the signal analog, while Roland and other convert the trigger input to digital prior to triggering, so there is an immediate lapse in time.
So, you may be better off just buying a used ddrum4, and using that as your TMI. Plus, that will give you a backup. (andI'm a firm believer in backups, I've got 3 ddrum4 interfaces, and a ddrum2.
